This is a poem I have written about Bessie Dunlop. A female burned as a witch, from Dalry.
Witch of Lynn, Dalry, arise
Return across our minds and skies
Free us from our bonds and chains
As deep divisions rise again
Banish sadness in your path
Hatred gone and Love at last
Minds of hatred let them rot
Come in peace Bessie Dunlop
Your innocence at last does shine
Official pardons now are thine
Thy peace and strength today we seek
Woman brave, humble and meek
Queen of Elfland now is yours
No more pain of thoughts impure
Footsteps of Truth cannot be stopped
Your words, now honored Bessie Dunlop.
Darkened minds do rise again
Bias, hatred, thoughts of man
From your time to recent years
We’ve called on saints to calm our fears
Symbol of hope we call you forth
Innocence of simple birth
Just like you, we live with fear
Help us wipe away our tears
And when they cry Gay, Witch or Trans
Stand by us with open hands
Teach us not to hate for hate
For with Love we find our way
When we declare another bad
Remind us of your life so sad
All hatred does is hurt and kill
And robs from us a life fulfilled
